Syrian humanitarian crisis: children affected most

Priorities for humanitarian aid to contain the regional impact of the crisis in Syria and possible political solutions to the conflict there were discussed by MEPs from the Development and Foreign Affairs committees and high-level speakers from various aid donor organisations in Parliament on Wednesday.

“The crisis has the face of a child”, said EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva. UNICEF Executive Director Antony Lake added that “the real danger is that we will lose a generation of Syrian children to hatred and hopelessness”.

Contributors to the debate shared their latest reports, stressing that the humanitarian crisis affects children most, which is not only a tragedy in itself, but compromises the country’s future and its chances to recover from the conflict.
